{"id":2292,"date":"2022-12-01T08:14:20","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T15:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wonderink.org\/?p=2292"},"modified":"2023-10-16T14:01:35","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T20:01:35","slug":"waiting-for-jesus-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wonderink.org\/waiting-for-jesus-series\/","title":{"rendered":"New Wonder Ink Series: Waiting for Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Our kids will have many opportunities to explore the nativity story, ask questions about Jesus\u2019 birthday, and celebrate Immanuel\u2014God with us\u2014our baby King throughout their faith journey. But one could argue, even more compelling than the day itself was the long-expected nature of Messiah\u2019s birth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God had promised a King. The prophets had foretold His story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weeks leading up to Christmas Day can be a time to enjoy the vibrancy of anticipation, to know that something worth waiting for is coming, and yet to wait it out. Isaiah teaches us to measure waiting differently: that waiting with anticipation requires both trust and truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this series, kids will celebrate Advent in a new way as they discover the prophecies about&nbsp;Jesus from Isaiah in the Old testament and the fulfillment of those prophecies in the birth of&nbsp;Jesus, as well as the promise of His return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"WaitingforJesusFacebookLiveSeriesLaunch.mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/775963717?h=39fdeaf687&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Series Invitation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For centuries, many churches have used the word&nbsp;<em>advent&nbsp;<\/em>to mark the season leading up to Christmas. The word literally means&nbsp;<em>coming<\/em>. And while not all churches follow a liturgical calendar, we all spend weeks preparing for Jesus\u2019 birthday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His coming was anticipated, and God\u2019s people waited a very long time for Messiah\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>We have every reason to believe that the waiting will render the very hope we anticipate.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The anticipation of Christmas morning is possibly the closest thing to the posture we are meant to maintain in light of the second coming of Christ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What would shift if we went to bed&nbsp;<em>every night&nbsp;<\/em>expecting to wake up on Christmas morning? Would you grow apathetic to that measure of hope or joy?&nbsp;<em>Have&nbsp;<\/em>you grown apathetic to Jesus\u2019 return?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our culture doesn\u2019t value the fine art of waiting, delayed gratification,&nbsp;or even hope. We\u2019ve invented countless ways to get things done&nbsp;more quickly, more independently, and more efficiently. We\u2019ve nearly&nbsp;eliminated the need to wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in this season, we wait. And we will wait on purpose, and we will wait well. Because we know it\u2019s worth it. We have every reason to believe that the waiting will render the very hope we anticipate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Take some time to lean into the waiting &#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What does it mean to you to wait?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What do you want the kids you serve to learn about waiting?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What fills you with anticipation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How would someone who knows you well know you\u2019re excited about something?
